Hinduism Today


Hinduism Today is an international magazine promoting the values and understanding of Hinduism and its culture. Founded in 1979, produced out of Hawaii and associated with the Himalayan Academy, Hinduism Today is distributed around the world and found online. One of the magazine’s goals is to foster unity among the many sects of Hindus found around the world. The magazine is designed not only for Hindus, but also for anyone interested in the Sanatana Dharma (the Hindu religion) and in the international impact of Hinduism. Melding ancient tradition and modern needs, Hinduism Today offers articles about events and issues in India and in Western countries. It covers a wide range of topics, from the Women’s Peace Conference in Geneva to the practice of yoga in Slovakian schools. The magazine maintains a digital archive of interviews with Hindu leaders.

Hindustan Times is a daily newspaper appearing in print and on-line for easy access to modern Hindu and Indian news. Providing thorough reporting from around the world, the paper includes business news, politics, editorials, and a section on lifestyles and popular culture, aptly named “infotainment.” In addition to standard news reporting, the Hindustan Times has a selection of regular columns, covering topics ranging from the recent ailments of India’s Prime Minister to the lack of conservatism in recent novels. Enlightenment Online

Enlightenment Online is an on-line magazine focusing on the Vedic tradition in modern times as interpreted by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, chiefly known for promoting Transcendental Meditation. Consequently the site devotes much effort to discussing meditation and its role in opening up unused parts of the mind. It includes articles about schools that provide a modern education linked with the “Maharishi Vedic” tradition, and highlights the achievements of students that practice it. Enlightenment Online also includes information on current issues and events regarding this path. This is a fascinating online magazine for “the modern Indian woman.” Naree.com provides information on raising children, being a working mother and wife, questions in Hindu law relating to the family, and many other issues that face Indian women. There are at least twenty sections listed on the main-page menu, ranging from welfare organizations in India to beauty hints to the role of the Internet in a woman’s life.
